About Me

A self portrait

Born and raised in Llanelli, Wales, I am a very proud Welshman with a lovely wife and beautiful daughter. I came to photography late, but over the last few years, since redundancy, have found a passion for nature, macro and landscape photography. Often found wandering through one of the many woods in the Chilterns in Buckinghamshire, where I now live.

I have been a keen photographer for many years, dabbling with film and slide. Now with the advent of digital photography and superb digital SLRs, I have combined my passion for photography with my software skills to produce some interesting images.

I started off humbly enough with a manual focus Ricoh KR10 SLR. A lovely little SLR which was great to cut my teeth on. Just enough technology to allow me to get to grips with exposure and shutter speed control but allowing me to concentrate on composition and depth of field.

I then moved on to a Minolta 700. Much more technology, better handling and all the options an amateur photographer could want. This is when I really started take photography a little more seriously and began to understand the pros and cons of film vs slide.

Fujichrome Velvia became my firm favourite.

After investing in a stack of kit for my Minolta I moved on to the Minolta 7D digital SLR. This finally gave me access to all the functionality I thought I needed with the added bonus that I could indulge myself with my boyhood dream of playing in a darkroom, all be it a digital one.

When Sony bought the Minolta camera technology, I thought the days of my kit were numbered so I upgraded to Canon, with the Canon 400D camera and a range of lenses. From there I moved up the ladder to the Canon 7D and then a huge step to full-frame with the Canon 5D Mark III, with Canon EF 24-105 L series lens.  There was a phenomenal difference in detail captured. The camera is extremely sophisticated giving a huge amount of control to the user.  Today with the advent of mirrorless technology I moved up to the Canon EOS R a lovely little (and much lighter) camera with RF mount lenses, and more recently upgraded to the Canon EOS R5 which is a definite upgrade and has improved my workflow considerably.
